Package returns, via Uber…
Uber is launching a new pickup service for shoppers who want to return unwanted purchases back to retailers.
Driving the news: With the new service, users can skip the trip to UPS, FedEx, or the post office to drop off returns themselves.
It can also be used to drop off prepaid packages other than returns.
Details: There’s $5 fee for returning up to five packages, or $3 for Uber One members.
What they’re saying: “One of the most common friction points in everyday life was just this idea of returns,” says Wendy Lee, Uber’s director of delivery product management.
“This is a value that we can create by delivering convenience.”
The big picture: Retailers are increasingly eliminating free returns to claw back some lost revenue.
